Bridgette’s Journey with Discipling
I met Holly when she was teaching the “Disciple to Disciplemaker” book to a group of young adults. I found Holly’s resource full of theologically rich content and user-friendly, even for non-believers.
Most of my coworkers are nonbelievers. I always clarify my belief in God and sometimes engage in conversations with others. One day, my coworker Reena asked me, “Can we meet? I feel like there is something different about you, and I wonder if it is because you believe in God.” She shared how she wanted what I had, and I assured her what I had was the Holy Spirit and that what was different about me was my faith in God!
This was the beginning of Reena and I meeting to discuss who God is and what it meant to have a relationship with Jesus. I asked if we could go through the first chapter of “Disciple to Disciplemaker” and regularly meet to read it together. We read through the entire book, and Reena gave her life to Christ.
When we first met, she was living with her boyfriend. She was full of shame and guilt and felt stuck. In our time together, she learned and felt fully forgiven by God. She had her boyfriend move out, and they began saving sexual intimacy for marriage. She also felt free from her past.
Reena began reading the disciplemaker book to her boyfriend. She started doing morning Bible readings with her daughter. Now, she, too, believes in Jesus! Reena has shared her faith with almost all of her friends and coworkers. She is passionate about sharing her faith and is “on fire” for Jesus. She doesn’t want anyone
to not know about the Lord and His mighty work!
The “Disciple to Disciplemaker” book has helped me have a “go to” guide to go through with people on all faith journeys. Holly’s book has been my go-to for discipling. From “Studying the Bible effectively” to “What does surrender look like?” to “How can I share Jesus with others?” this book is unique in that it is user-friendly, non-intimidating, and biblically sound. I recommend that all my friends utilize the book and begin discipling someone. All it takes is a conversation, trusting God, and relying on the Holy Spirit to change the heart.
Holly’s Health and Next Steps
Holly has been having some challenges with a droopy left eye, cloudy vision in her right eye, and the nerves on the left side of her head are sensitive to the touch. After a CT scan, bloodwork, and EKG, the doctors have wondered if it’s the beginning signs of Bell’s Palsy. Holly has also lost the taste of sweet (great for weight loss!) so we are looking into an immune disorder called Myasthenia Graves as well. Holly has been filling her days with doctor appointments to try to figure out what is going on. This is not what she thought her Sabbatical would look like! Please pray for wisdom for the doctors and us as we continue to figure out what is going on with her.
Holly is also praying about her next steps with Cru after Sabbatical. She is considering a position with Cru’s FamilyLife to be a content writer for their blogs and YouVersion Bible studies. With her background in Marriage and Family Therapy and now her Master’s in Theology and the various things she’s already written, FamilyLife
would like her to join them in influencing families through her writing. Would you please pray if this is her next best contribution to God’s Kingdom at the life stage of our children and her new health issues? Thank you!
