Reaching the Next Generation through Multiplying Disciples

When you think of how Jesus spent His time on earth, He didn’t try to win the masses. He invested in a few, the 12 disciples. His strategy was to train a few to know how to share the gospel and disciple others to do the same, knowing that this would be the most effective way the World would hear the message of the gospel and lives would be transformed.

This is the same strategy we use in Cru.  We disciple staff or students, training them how to share their faith and invest in others. Then we let them go and make their own disciples.  This is what happened when Tim, a transfer student, was discipled last year (Top Right).  Tim got so excited about sharing his faith and being used by God that he went on a summer mission trip. There he saw 9 people come to Christ! He came back to campus on fire to share his faith and train others how to do so.

He and Matt went out the first few weeks of school and initiated with freshmen, asking them to fill out a spiritual interest survey.  All together, staff and students gathered a couple thousand surveys and had over 500 students that wanted to meet up and learn more about Jesus, the gospel or Cru.  One of those students was Michael (bottom right).  Michael was raised Catholic but had never been invited to receive Jesus as his Savior and Lord. Tim got to share the gospel and Matt got to lead him in a prayer of surrender.

Please pray that Matt and Tim will be able to continue to meet with Michael to help him truly become a disciple of Jesus. The great commission says to “Go and make disciples…”, not converts.  And that is what we want to do with this next generation.

This is something you can be a part of too! Did you know that if you invested in a new person every 6 months and taught them how to grow in the Lord, share the gospel with others and how to disciple, then released them to invest in a new person every 6 months, that in the next 10 years you could multiply your life into 59,067 people indirectly! No matter how busy our lives, look at how much impact we could make if we each invested in someone for a small amount of time and then released them to discipled others….we’d reach the entire world with the gospel in our generation!!! If you want to learn more how to do this, two great resources that we use to train people in Cru and in our church is “Leading a Small Group” by Dave Earley & Rod Dempsey and “Master Plan of Evangelism” by Robert Coleman.

Please continue to pray for both of us as we disciple and raise up leaders within Cru and our church. Your partnerships with us is truly going to make an impact in generations to come! Thank you!
